Ah, the creative journey in a life of a blogger – that glamorous coffee fueled existence where we sit down at our perfectly aesthetic desks, sprinkle a bit of creativity dust and out pops a masterpiece. Or… maybe we find ourselves on our third cup of cold coffee at 3 a.m. frantically Googling “fun blog ideas people actually want to read”. Yes, my friends, the reality of the blogger life is often a bit less sparkly.

Step One: The Inspiration or …  the art to Stare at a Blank Screen

Every great blog post starts with a killer idea (or so we’ve been told). We sit down, ready to brainstorm, and by that, we mean we casually scroll social media hoping to stumble across something brilliant we can totally, definitely make our own. After about 15 minutes of scrolling, our hearts race as we realize… we’re actually just doom-scrolling. Who knew that “how to create a backyard duck sanctuary” or “top 10 ways to collect thimbles” would make us question our whole lives?

So, we switch strategies. Pinterest boards? Check. Keyword research? Double-check. Maybe even a quick peek at what the neighbor’s blogging about, because, hey, creative theft—I mean, inspiration—is just good sense, right? But alas, we are still idea-less.

Step Two: Let’s get Inspired by “Creative Side Projects”

Next, in the life of a blogger comes the well-worn excuse to focus on the creative side project, that elusive, sparkling idea that we think everyone will go crazy for once we finally finish it. Will it be an interactive map of the world’s best coffee shops? An animated short about the woes of adulting? Or maybe a niche cookbook featuring only avocado-themed recipes?

Spoiler alert: the idea has been in “development” for three years, buried somewhere between our fantasy of running a small farm and the half-baked plan to launch a podcast about our cat. But this time—this time!—we’re serious. We’ve got outlines, mood boards and a playlist called “Creative Vibes Only.” Basically, we’re one step away from sending out press releases.

Neah! Side project should be something the audience can benefit, not just kill the time for a few moments!

Step Three: Research (a.k.a. Procrastination Disguised as Productivity)

Once we’ve landed on the perfect topic, we dive headfirst into the essential step: research. This, of course, means reading three articles, skimming an e-book and watching a YouTube video that quickly devolves into a binge session of “5 Facts About Whales That Will Shock You.” that somebody already did make. Check the video if don’t believe us.

Don’t worry, though, we’re still technically researching. After all, these random facts could add a little flair to our blog post. Readers love a good “did you know?” moment, even if it’s related to us as far as Australia. Oh, there are whales in Australia!?

It’s at this point we might even consult Google’s “People Also Ask” section (…well maybe not just Google) because , hey, the people’s curiosity is contagious. And let’s face it if we’re genuinely curious about “how often cats dream”, maybe it’s time to face the fact that our “research” has once again turned into a Netflix binge waiting to happen.

Step Four: The actual Writing Process (a.k.a. Channeling pure Panic into Genius)

After the inspiration, the creative side project tangent and The “research”, the clock ticks closer to the deadline. But don’t worry! This is where the magic happens: fueled by coffee and panic, we finally begin to type with what we can only assume is pure genius.

Finally, we reach the finish line, editing our work like we’re in some kind of “final polishing marathon.” The result? A blog post just coherent enough to pass as intentional, infused with those nuggets of creativity that only emerge after putting off writing for two weeks. Genius, I tell you. But that is just an everyday routine in a life of a blogger.

Step Five: Hit Publish and Pray for Validation

With trembling hands, we press the Publish Button, praying our 3 a.m. humor actually lands. And as we wait for that sweet validation in the form of likes, shares and comments (you know, the important stuff), we mentally prepare ourselves to do it all again the next time.

… or perhaps the “other next”.

Ending another day in a life of a blogger

The glamorous, creative blogger life isn’t for the heard feinted nor the super-organized. But in the end, whether our posts are carefully planned or scrambled together last minute, we hope they bring a chuckle to someone out there in the vast interwebs.

But…

What if we really run side project/s and this post is just a placeholder before a new one comes to life!? Should check the site again and visit us this weekend. Visitors are welcome!
