Monetizing a website can be done in several ways, by displaying ads, selling own products and services or promoting affiliate links are some of the most popular and easy to set.

Each of these approaches has its own pros and cons.

For showing ads from advertising networks you have to sign up and place some code on your website to show their ads. Advertisers offer various ad formats in different styles and sizes that will fit well into your website. You have thin option to choose what ads will be shown.

And most important you’ll need a ton of traffic to see a buck. By a lot of traffic, think about 2$ CPM = 2$ for one thousand views on an ad shown on your site.

That’s poor, you’ll need much more than that to squeeze any money from displaying ads.

Promoting affiliate offers can be far more profitable. With one single sale you can earn that much if not several times more from just one single sale made through your affiliate link. You don’t need to do anything special you aren’t already doing. Just try to drive more traffic and promoting your affiliate links.

Selling your own products and services is another story.

As said, showing ads from advertisers might not look the best option. Same ads are showing over and over on thousands of websites and the share you get is so tiny and insignificant so you can’t really rely on this strategy especially if don’t have a large audience. And you can put only one ad (or a few) on your site.

Affiliate links pay much greater commissions if purchase is made and you’re not restricted to only a few ad slots.

Lastly comes your own products and services which you can control but it may be hard and time consuming to run a business your self, managing ad campaigns and chasing leads.

Why not display ads you want and show them as much as you want while trying not to get visitors bored.
